Today marks 17 years since the attacks on 9/11/2001. A day that the United States has vowed to never forget. On this day a series of four attacks took place which resulted in the death of 2,977 people in New York City, Washington DC, and outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
It has been said that there are moments in every person’s life that they will never forget. The birth of a child or their wedding day; we tend to remember days that change our lives. September 11th, 2001 is more than a day that changed our lives. It changed the course of our nation. On this day many lost their life, more lost their loved ones, and all lost peace of mind. Every year on this day Americans everywhere coin the phrase “Never Forget”, as a promise to honor every sacrifice made that day. Past Senator John Kerry once said, “Remember the hours after September 11th when we came together as one… It was the worst day we have ever seen, but it brought out the best in all of us.” If the devastating loss of life was the dark, then the spirit of unity amongst the survivor’s was the light.
17 years later, Americans have payed tribute to this day over and over again. There are museums, monuments, artwork, books, survivor’s stories, moments of silence, history lessons, and much more. Today, take a moment to remember and honor every lost life, every sacrifice made, every act of bravery, and every person impacted by this day.
